Temps de Guerre – 1

The project 'Temps de Guerre' (Wartime) visualizes the tension between innocence of the language of code names for military operations and the reality of war: 'Death has the tendency to encourage a despressing view of war', Donald Rumsfeld once said.

The texts on one side of the 10 postcards are names of military operations and suggest tourist cliches, while on the back actrocities of war are being described. These texts are taken from a Tahitian-English dictionary of 1851. The name 'Temps de Guerre' refers to the two meanings of the French word 'temps' which is 'weather' and 'time'.
